Why do families say they come to Craftsbury and stay?

Personalized Attention: With smaller class sizes (10-12 students on average), our dedicated educators ensure every student receives the individualized support they need to excel academically, socially and emotionally, creating a more dynamic relationship with students

Close-knit Community: Students at Craftsbury Academy forge lifelong friendships and connections with peers and teachers who truly care about their success

Diverse Opportunities: Despite our size, we offer a wide range of extracurricular activities, sports, and clubs. Whether you're passionate about athletics, arts, or academics, there's something here for you to explore and thrive in.

Empowering Environment: Craftsbury Academy offers a confidence-building atmosphere where every voice is heard and every achievement celebrated. From leadership opportunities to creative expression, we empower students to embrace their uniqueness and reach their full potential.

Education Beyond the Classroom: Craftsbury students benefit from strong educational partnerships with Craftsbury Outdoor Center, The Center for an Agricultural Economy (CAE), Craftsbury Historical Society, DREAM Mentoring, Four Winds Institute, Green Mountain Farm to School, HireAbility Vermont, Rural Arts Collaborative, and Sterling College, among others. These collaborative partners help us extend robust and creative educational opportunities to our students both inside and outside the classroom.

Connection to Nature: Our rural location isn't just beautiful—it's an integral part of our educational experience. Throughout their time at Craftsbury, students explore numerous outdoor learning opportunities, environmental initiatives, and a sense of connection to the land that inspires a deeper appreciation for the world around us. Students have ongoing access to their own outdoor classroom and trail system at the Craftsbury Woodlot.

Preparation for Work and Life: Craftsbury’s Work Based Learning program offers students experiences with industry or community professionals in real, virtual, or simulated working environments and exposes learners to post-secondary options.

Demonstration of Transferable Skills - The Senior Capstone: The Craftsbury Academy Senior Capstone is a culminating project which enables students to demonstrate proficiency of the skills they have developed as a result of their K-12 education. These skills align with the Vermont transferable skills and the Craftsbury Board ends, found in The Portrait of the Craftsbury Graduate. The Capstone enables students to design and conduct a personally meaningful research project of their own choosing while developing connections between the larger community and the school. As a result of extensive fieldwork, research and planning, students write a formal research paper and present their results to the community.

Accreditation: Craftsbury Academy is accredited by the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and holds membership in the College Board and the National Association for College Admission Counseling.

Recent Accolades: In 2023, Craftsbury Academy was named to the 2023 AP School Honor Roll. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP program is delivering results and broadening access for students. Schools can earn the Honor Roll recognition annually based on their ability to increase their school’s college-going culture, to provide opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness. Craftsbury Academy has earned the Silver distinction, with 76% of seniors taking at least one AP exam during high school and 53% of seniors scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam.
