Philosophy
John Dewey, a Vermonter and a pioneer in educational reform, emphasized the need to place students in ‘indeterminate situations’ that necessitate critical and creative thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving. He was of the strong opinion that the job of an educator is not to lead students down the road, but to place students at forks in the road. Craftsbury educators agree with this philosophy and practice it daily in their core humanities, math, and science classrooms.
